The Untamed Virginia Adventure Race is becoming a classic mid-Atlantic
endurance experience; more an adventure than a race!

Race Discipline: Riverboarding
In
the late 1970's some Frenchmen were lying on bags full of lifejackets
and floating downstream through river rapids high
up in the Alps. A new sport was born: riverboarding (known as "hydrospeed" in the UK and
"sledging" in NZ).
Riverboarding is a way to navigate rivers by lying flat on your stomach on a riverboard and kicking
with fins on your feet.
For Untamed Virginia 2008, teams will experience some famous Richmond whitewater.
Participants must bring their own riverboards -- of any make and manufacture, but we suggest
RipBoard, the American authority on riverboarding. We
have a special deal to offer Untamed
VA racers on riverboarding equipment . . . and there will be a riverboarding clinic on the
James River in Richmond in late July. Refer to our clinic page
for full details.
Watch the video below to see an experienced riverboarder take on one of Richmond's signature rapids:
Special thanks to Pat and Chris of the "Crash and Splash" team for the video footage!
